Peruvian blue opal is relatively rare and found only in the Andes mountains near San Patricio, Peru. Natural colored stones are a beautiful translucent aqua and although top grade stones contain no matrix, sometimes the beauty of individual stones is enhanced by interesting patches of brown matrix.
Note: Because of the rarity of this stone, many unscrupulous dealers are selling dyed agates as blue opals. If the price seems too good to be true, it is probably dyed agate or low grade mine runs of almost colorless material that has been dyed. More Peruvian opal information and facts.
