Chrysoprase is one of the Star Signs for Gemini (May 22-Jun. 21) and the Ancient Russian birthstone for December. See other Gemini birth stones.

Chrysoprase is the apple green form of chalcedony with a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. The rarest of the chalcedony group, it is found in Australia, Brazil, the Ural Mountains, and the U.S. The green color is due to the nickel content and it is sometimes called Australian Jade because the green color resembles some jades.

Healing properties of chrysoprase: said to increase fertility and compassion, to soothe heartache and loneliness, to promote emotional balance, inner peace and reduce depression.

Early legends say that thieves used chrysoprase to help them become invisible. A stone known from early times, Chrysoprase was a favorite of Alexander the Great.
